1.0 Overview

The Support Scheme for Renewable Heat is an upcoming Government programme to incentivise renewable heat in the Republic of Ireland (ROI), now open for applications.

It will be administered by the Sustainable Energy Authority of Ireland (SEAI)

According to IrBEA:

  • SSRH will be available for all commercial applications with no lower limit
  • The budget for the scheme is €18m per year for 15 years, the €18m budget is for biomass alone
  • It is planned that the online portal for applications will be open in September 2018 to allow people to become familiar with the requirements

2.0 Support Mechanisms 2.1 Operational Support (ongoing for 15 years)

  • Biomass Boilers or biomass CHP
  • Biogas (AD) or biogas CHP

2.2 Installation Grant (one-off payment)

  • Air source heat pumps
  • Ground source heat pumps
  • Water source heat pumps

Procedures for determining eligible costs will be set out in the Operating Rules (not yet published).

5.0 Applications

Eligible Applicants

  • Commercial, industrial, agricultural, public sector, district heating or other non-domestic heat user whose activities fall outside the EU Emissions Trading Scheme
  • There are no minimum or maximum heat capacity limits
  • District heating has a minimum eligible size (not yet published)
  • Applicants cannot receive other public funding for the same renewable heat output. If other support is in place the applicant must demonstrate that there is no duplication of support
